A patio is only as good as what's underneath it, so time goes into getting the sub-base, falls and drainage right before a single slab goes down. On sites with awkward or sloping ground, that means working out the right approach for retaining levels and getting water moving away from the house rather than pooling on the surface.
Once the base is sound, the surface is laid to a consistent pattern and pointed cleanly, with edges and borders finished so the whole patio reads as one job rather than a patchwork. Tired existing patios can be pressure cleaned and sealed to bring them back.
